Split System

What are Split Systems?

Split system air conditioner consists of two parts: a wall mounted indoor unit (fan coil) and an outdoor unit (condenser), connecting by refrigerant lines. When it set to cool, the warm air within the room is sucked into the fan coil and removed completely, returning cool air circulating back into the room. While it is set to reverse cycle, it allows for the heat pump to run in reverse in order to provide warm air circulation during cold days.

Why Choose Split System?

Air conditioning is now considered a popular option for many residential homes, businesses and multi-unit family properties, because it is ductless, it is an excellent choice for homeowners, who wants to maintain the integrity of existing structures. Also, if you are adding a room onto your house or office, a wall split system is an excellent solution to provide comfort for single area without disrupting or expanding your current ducted system.

  • Improved Building Aesthetics – split systems  only require a 3-inch hole to be cut in the wall in order to connect the outdoor unit to the indoor unit, and the outdoor unit can be placed on a concrete slab just like a traditional central air conditioning unit.
  • Doesn’t Block Windows – When it set to cool, the warm air within the room is sucked into the fan coil and removed completely, returning cool air circulating back into the room. While it is set to reverse cycle, it allows for the heat pump to run in reverse in order to provide warm air circulation during cold days. There are a multitude of options when it comes choosing the right air conditioning system.
  • Completely Ductless – Split systems do not need any air ducts. Instead, the indoor unit blows the cold air into the room. This eliminates the loss of cooled air through leaky ducts and ducts located in hot areas.
  • Extremely Quiet Operation – When compared to window box units, split systems are incredibly quiet, which means there’s no need for your residents to turn up their TVs or digital devices while the unit is running.

How a Split System works when cooling / heating your home:

Split air conditioning system cool and heat one single room or area of your home. The unit is split into two parts; outdoor unit is located on the outside of the property and indoor unit goes inside the home. They are connected by refrigerant line, which is also called copper piping.

What is Multi-Head Split System:

With a Multi-Head Split System, multiple units could be installed throughout the house to connect to one outdoor condenser.  Multi-head split air conditioning systems use the same technology as split system, but could be installed for up to five rooms with only one outdoor condenser and giving independent temperature control over each area.

What is the Running Costs?

Inverter air conditioners have a variable speed (or inverter-driven) motor. Rather than switching the compressor on and off, they automatically vary the speed of the compressor, running it at full speed when cooling demand is high and at a much slower speed when cooling demand is low. There is not much difference of your running costs with a split system. Firstly, it depends on the sizing of an air conditioner to have a full heat load calculation. Once you have established what size you need, use star ratings to choose an energy efficient split system to save even more running costs.

Inverter air conditioners are quieter to run and have lower running costs compared to the standard air conditioners. Most split system air conditioners these days are inverters.
